Slater: When Kerr was Suns GM in 2009, he wanted to trade Stoudemire for the No. 7 pick to draft Curry.

Today, Warriors reporter Anthony Slater wrote an article about the history of Cole and Curry.

In 11 seasons of cooperation, Cole and Curry led the Golden State Warriors to six NBA Finals and won four championships. Kerr first met Curry when he was general manager of the Phoenix Suns. In November 2007, he attended a Davidson College game against UCLA in Anaheim, Calif., when Curry was a sophomore. In the tunnel after the game, he met Curry's parents. Kerr knows Curry’s father, Dell, because they crossed paths as players. Curry's mother, Sonya, asked Kerr if her son Steph had a chance to make it to the NBA.

Curry announced his candidacy after his junior season. In the 2009 draft, the Suns held the 14th overall pick. Kerr attempted to draft Curry by adding Stoudemire to the trade in exchange for the seventh pick. He believes Curry is the ideal successor to Steve Nash. The deal was almost done, but eventually the Warriors backed out of the deal and selected Curry with the seventh pick.
