Milan City: Milan City Government agrees to sell San Siro, which will be finalized by the city council from September 25 to 29
According to the "Milan Sports" report, the Milan Municipal Council agreed to sell the San Siro Stadium to Milan and Inter Milan, but the city council still needs a final resolution.
At 14:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the Milan Municipal Government Council held a meeting to approve the decision to sell the San Siro Stadium and its surrounding areas to Milan and Inter Milan. The relevant resolution is a 159-page document, including the graphic design of the new stadium, etc.
Around 17:00 local time, Milan Deputy Mayor Anna Scavorzo announced: "The city government has actively considered the relevant proposals to be submitted to the committee and the city council. This is an important task. Thank the city council for providing us with a framework for building this process and always maintaining dialogue. There was a wide discussion, and Councillor Elena Grandi opposed it." Elena Grandi was the representative of the Green Party and served as the Commissioner for Environment and Greening.
The next proposal will also be discussed by the Municipal Planning Committee, Urban Regeneration Committee, Green Environmental Protection Animal Protection Committee, Sports Tourism Youth Welfare Policy Committee, etc. From September 25 to September 29, the Milan Municipal Council will conduct the final voting approval. Currently, Milan Mayor Sara and others support the sale, while Green Party representatives firmly oppose it.
If the proposal for sale and new stadiums cannot be passed at the final vote of the city council, then Milan and Inter must find other solutions. Milan had previously considered building a new stadium in the southern San Donato area and invested €55 million, but the Milan club may not have enough financial resources to undertake such an expensive new stadium project alone.
The construction of a new stadium in the surrounding area of San Siro Stadium can be partly responsible for the expenses of the two clubs, Milan and Inter Milan, which is more beneficial to both clubs. "Sports of Milan" also said that if the sale of San Siro fails, Inter may consider going to the San Donato area with Milan to jointly build a new stadium, but no formal action has been taken yet.
Recently, many environmentalists have begun to protest against the project of the two Milan heroes to build a new stadium. In the next two weeks, the situation on this matter will become more tense and there may be more protests.
