Enrique talks about how to defend Messi: multiple players need to work together

Paris will play against Miami International led by Messi in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup tonight. Enrique revealed how to stop and defend his former beloved disciple Messi before the game.

Despite being 38, Messi is still able to decide the game, as shown by that wonderful free kick he scored against Porto. Messi has been doing well since the beginning of the Club World Cup and is clearly eager to beat the new European champions.

From 2014 to 2017, Enrique led Messi to his peak while coaching at Barcelona and won the Champions League title in 2015.

"Messi is the best player in history and I have the honor to coach him when he was in his best form," Enrique said in a press conference on Saturday.

"To me, Messi is the best player in history. Today, he still maintains a high level of competitiveness and can perform well in every game. His understanding and handling of the game are impressive."

So, does the Paris coach have a defensive plan against Messi? Enrique does have some ideas: "If we want to stop him, we can't rely on just one player, but we need multiple players to work together. We have to keep passing and keep possession. Messi can single out any player."
