Ibaka was born on September 18, 1989 in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo. In the 2008 NBA draft, Ibaka was selected by the Seattle Supersonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder) with the 24th pick in the first round, and officially entered the NBA in the 2009-10 season. During the Thunder, Ibaka was awarded the NBA blocking champion for two consecutive seasons and entered the league's best defensive team for three consecutive years. In 2016, Ibaka was traded to the Orlando Magic and the following year, and won the NBA championship with the Raptors in the 2018-19 season. In 2020, Ibaka joined the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2022, Ibaka joins the Milwaukee Bucks. In 2023, Ibaka was traded to the Indiana Pacers and was immediately cut. On September 16 of the same year, Bayern Munich Basketball Club in Germany announced that Ibaka officially joined the team. In July 2024, Ibaka joined Real Madrid men's basketball team. In July 2025, Ibaka and Real Madrid parted ways. At the national team level, Ibaka joined the Spanish men's basketball team in 2011 and won the championship with the team in the 2011 European Men's Basketball Championship; and won the runner-up in the 2012 London Olympics.
